Training

The Student Counseling Center also offers trainings on a wide variety of mental health related topics. Educating yourself, your club, and your office is a key way to promote wellness across the entire Hampton University campus. If you would like to request a training, please complete the form listed below.

Training - 2 Hours

Grief Support Training

Join the Lead Grief Clinician of the BSP on an informational journey towards gaining competence on the topic of grief and loss. This training will provide information on the grieving process, how to support bereaved persons, and other valuable grief support resources. This training will also provide more insight on the BSP and how to refer students in need to the program. Disclaimer: This training will cover topics that may be sensitive in nature.

Training - 4 Hours

SafeTALK

A comprehensive four-hour training designed to enhance participants' awareness of suicide risk and empower them to connect individuals in need with appropriate support. Min attendance of 15 / max attendance of 40

Training - 8 Hours

Mental Health First Aid Training

This eight-hour training offers a range of comprehensive skills-based early-intervention courses. Our courses teach learners how to identify, understand and respond to signs or symptoms of mental health or substance use challenges. Decrease stigma, address tough challenges and make a positive difference in the lives of those around you by getting certified. Min attendance of 8 / max attendance of 30

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

Trusted by professionals, approved by the World Health Organization and learnable by anyone, (ASIST) is the only workshop of its kind. Participants will learn to identify, intervene, and engage in safety planning in collaboration with persons with thoughts of suicide. Min attendance of 8 / max attendance of 30

Training - 1½ - 2 hours

Thriving Together: LGBTQIA+ Mental Health, Gender, and Inclusion

This training is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ individuals (students). The training will cover a range of topics, including mental health challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals, the complexities of gender and sexuality, and strategies for promoting diversity and inclusion on campus. Additionally, the training will hold the space for discussions on a variety of topics, interactive activities, and provide resources to help attendees better understand and support the LGBTQIA+ community.
