Urgent/Crisis Support
If you or someone else are experiencing a medical emergency or are in immediate danger, call 911.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis right now, call 988 or contact HUPD at 757-727-5666.
24/7 On-Call Therapist
Between 8am – 5pm, Parents, Staff, Faculty, and Students can contact the Student Counseling Center (757-727-5617) to request immediate assistance with a student they believe is experiencing a mental health crisis.
After 5pm (and on weekends), parents, staff, faculty, and students are encouraged to call the Hampton University Police Department (757-727-5666) and request an On-Call Therapist to assist a student who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.
Please note: On-call services are not available during the official closing of the University for the academic semester. This typically occurs during mid-December through early January. Please check the University calendar for the official dates.
Wellness Checks
A wellness check is an attempt to make contact when a student is believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis or needs assistance with getting connected to resources. Parents, Staff, Faculty, and Students can request a Wellness Check for a matriculating HU student who they believe may require this level of intervention.
Wellness checks can be requested through the Student Counseling Center. Parents, Staff, Faculty, and Students can request a Wellness Check for anyone they believe may be experiencing a mental health crisis and/or needs to be connected to resources on campus.
