Admissions Requirements

The admission requirements listed below are for all degree program applicants seeking enrollment in graduate-level study.

  • Completed application
  • $50 non-refundable fee (Go to Payment Form)
  • An official transcript from each college/university attended
  • Personal statement
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Resume (Marine and Environmental Science and Certificate in Sport Leadership applicants only)
  • Duolingo English Test, TOEFL, or IELTS: required for applicants whose native language is not English
    • Note: ENG 503 English Composition for Graduate Students is required if the following minimum test scores are not met:
      • Duolingo English Test < 120;
      • TOEFL iBT < 87;
      • TOEFL PBT < 525;
      • TOEFL CBT < 194;
      • IELTS Academic < 6.5;
      • MCAT Verbal < 6.5 & N on essay;
      • DAT Reading Comprehension < 13.
  • Students may request a waiver for the English language proficiency exam requirement if they have earned—or will earn—a bachelor’s degree or higher degree from an accredited university where English is the medium of instruction. See here for more details.

Additional Requirements

M.A. in Communicative Sciences & Disorders Program

In addition to your CDSCAS application, the Graduate College requires the Online Graduate College admission application.

Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

In addition to the PTCAS application, the Graduate College requires:

  1. The online Graduate College admission application and
  2. A $500 advance deposit to secure your seat.
M.S. and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or Planetary Science and M.S. in Marine and Environmental Science Programs

Three letters of recommendation (instead of the standard two).

M.S. in Medical Science Program

Official test scores of the MCAT or DAT.

M.T. (Master of Teaching) Programs

Only current Hampton University students enrolled in one of our sponsored programs can apply for admission to M.T. (Master of Teaching) degree programs.

M.S. in Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Minimum 3.25 GPA.
Professional or academic background in business or related fields recommended (Non-Business majors may have to take Pre-Requisite courses).

The 5-Year Master of Business Administration Program

Only current Hampton University students enrolled in the bachelor’s program Business Administration can apply for admission to the 5-year MBA program. Students: read the admission requirements below with care.

  • Completion of the bachelor’s program in Business Administration and permission of the Department Chair
  • Two letters of recommendation, preferably from a professor in the School of Business or the student’s concentration
  • A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.25; cumulative GPAs under 3.25 require a GMAT score of at least 400
  • *Note: If your cumulative undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, you are not eligible to apply to the program

Track A-Bachelor’s Degree earned December, begin MBA January  

  • Application deadline date – November 1st
  • Qualifying GPA will be based on the Summer cumulative undergraduate GPA of the previous school year
  • If you do not have a qualifying cumulative undergraduate GPA, you must earn a minimum GMAT score of 400 by October 31st

Track B- Provisional Admission-Bachelor’s Degree in May, begin MBA in the Summer

  • Application deadline date May 15th
  • Qualifying undergraduate GPA of 3.25 is based on your current Spring cumulative GPA
  • If you do not have a qualifying cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.25, you must earn a minimum GMAT score of 400 by May 14th
  • Students on this track must complete their graduate-level internship in the summer immediately after earning their bachelor’s degree to officially begin the program
  • There is no fall start for this program
  • If you do not have an internship for the summer, you must withdraw from the program
  • The maximum number of credit hours that an applicant can transfer into the graduate program is nine credits; the transfer of credit occurs after the applicant is fully admitted into the program

*Note: your undergraduate cumulative GPA does not carry over into the Graduate College. If your graduate cumulative GPA falls below 3.0, you will be placed on probation

  • Application fee and official transcript only.
  • *Note: (non-degree) students are not eligible to receive federal funding.  Please consult immediately with the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships to discuss funding options.
