Transfer Admission Requirements
Students who have successfully completed a minimum of 15 semester hours at a regionally accredited college or university may be considered for transfer admission to Hampton University. Students who are currently enrolled in high school and taking college-level courses through a dual enrollment program are considered first-year applicants with college credit and should apply as an entering freshman. Please do NOT apply as a transfer student.

Application Requirements
Application Requirements for All Transfer Students
- Completed Common Application
- $60 application fee
- Official college transcript(s) from an accredited college or university attended
- One letter of recommendation from a counselor, teacher, or coach on official letterhead (Letters from family members or friends will not be accepted.)
- Personal essay (select one essay prompt provided in the Common Application or submit the Character Matters Essay describing what exhibiting good character means to you)
Transfer Students who completed less than 30 credits:
Students who have completed less than 30 college credit hours must submit the additional requirements below, including the additional criteria mentioned above:
- Official high school transcript

Transfer Credit Evaluation Process
Transfer credit evaluations are completed after a student has committed to Hampton University. To begin the evaluation process, the Office of Admission must receive an official transcript from each accredited college or university you have attended.
The Office of Admission evaluates general education courses at the 100- and 200-level, including subjects such as:
English
History
Psychology
Communication
Other general education courses
Departmental Course Evaluations
Major-specific and departmental courses are reviewed by the appropriate academic department after enrollment.
The Office of Admission does not evaluate:
Mathematics courses
Business courses
Nursing courses
Other major-specific or departmental courses
(These courses are reviewed by the appropriate academic department after enrollment).
Transfer Credit Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for transfer credit:
- Courses must be completed at a regionally accredited institution.
- You must earn a grade of C or higher in each course. Grades of C- or below are not eligible for transfer credit.
- A final letter grade must be posted on your official transcript.
- Courses with grades of W (Withdrawal), P (Pass), or S (Satisfactory) are not eligible for transfer credit.
