Important Dates To Know

Early Action Deadline

Applications must be completed by November 15, 2026, to be eligible for an Early Action decision for Fall 2027.

Regular Decision Deadline

Applications must be completed by March 1, 2027, to be eligible for a Regular Decision for Fall 2027.

Application Requirements

  • Traditional Written Essay or Video Essay Submission if submitting a traditional written essay, select one of the Common App prompts. If you choose to submit a video essay, record and submit a video of up to 90 seconds explaining what Character Matters means to you.

Please note: Your application will be reviewed once all required application materials have been received. Hampton University offers rolling admission, meaning applications are reviewed as credentials are received. Students may submit updated materials, such as test scores or transcripts, for consideration during the admission process.

Our Test-Optional Policy

Hampton University offers a Test-Optional Admission Policy for eligible first-year applicants.

You may choose whether to submit SAT or ACT scores if you meet one of the following criteria:
1. Earned a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.6 or higher
2. Ranked in the top 10% of your graduating class

Am I Eligible to Apply Test-Optional?
1. Unweighted cumulative GPA 3.6+
2. U.S. Student
3. Traditional High School Student (Non-Homeschooled Student)

Please Note: Students who apply Test-Optional are not eligible for merit-based scholarship opportunities.

How We Evaluate Test Scores

Students who submit both the SAT and ACT will receive consideration using their strongest submitted scores.

SAT: Hampton University superscores by combining a student’s highest Evidence-Based Reading & Writing score with their highest Math score.
ACT: Hampton University considers a student’s highest composite score.

Dual Enrollment Students

Hampton University recognizes the hard work and dedication of students who participate in dual enrollment programs.

To ensure we can accurately evaluate your coursework for possible transfer credit, you must request an official transcript from each college or university where you completed dual enrollment courses. Official transcripts must be sent directly to the Hampton University Office of Admission.
