Former Hampton University students who wish to return to Hampton University must submit a readmission application for the semester in which they plan to enroll.
Application Deadlines
Fall Semester: July 31
Spring Semester: December 31
Readmission Review Process
Applicants seeking readmission must submit official transcript(s) from all colleges or universities attended after leaving Hampton University, if applicable.
Once your application file is complete, it will be reviewed by the appropriate university offices. Please allow 2–3 weeks for the review process to be completed. You will be notified of your admission decision once the review has concluded.
Academic Dismissal Readmission Requirements

Students who have been academically dismissed from Hampton University may be eligible to apply for readmission based on the number of previous academic dismissals and completion of the required academic improvement steps.
First Academic Dismissal
Students seeking readmission after a first academic dismissal must:
- Successfully complete at least six (6) semester hours of new, in-person coursework at:
- Hampton University’s Summer Session, or
- Another accredited college or university
- Receive approval through the Application to Take Courses at Another Institution (if attending another institution)
- Earn a minimum 2.5 GPA in the completed coursework
- Submit official transcript(s) documenting successful completion of all coursework
Second Academic Dismissal
Students who receive a second academic dismissal are not eligible to enroll during Hampton University’s Summer Session or the immediately following Fall semester.
To be considered for Spring readmission, students must:
- Complete at least six (6) semester hours of new, in-person coursework at an accredited college or university
- Obtain approval through the Application to Take Courses at Another Institution before enrolling at another institution
- Earn a minimum 2.5 GPA
- Submit official transcript(s) from the institution attended
- Submit an Application for Readmission by December 1
Third Academic Dismissal
Students who have received a third academic dismissal are not eligible for readmission to Hampton University.
Important Information:
- Completion of these requirements does not guarantee readmission. Readmission is contingent upon meeting all University requirements and receiving all required approvals.
- Credits earned at another institution will not replace or alter a student’s Hampton University cumulative GPA; however, they may demonstrate academic improvement and readiness to return.
- Students should submit all required documentation as early as possible to avoid delays in processing.
- Missing transcripts or incomplete documentation may delay the review of your readmission application and your admission decision.
