Dear Hampton University Community:
As we approach the Thanksgiving season, so much is changing across the learning environment, and I want to sincerely thank all who helped Hampton University meet this challenge. Many colleges and universities, large and small, public and private, are beset by money woes, forced closings, staff layoffs, and growing financial needs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we are not out of the woods yet, Hampton has been fortunate. So many of you have played an important role in Hampton’s goal to weather the COVID- 19 pandemic, and I can never thank you enough.
My thanks are also extended to those individuals, organizations, and corporations that have supported us over the past year with outside funding in the form of grants and gifts. We have received $41,761,951 million from private sources, including MacKenzie Scott, Southern Company, Dominion Energy, Thermo-Fisher, Peloton, Ernst & Young, Lily Endowment Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Mellon Foundation, NBC Universal, Truist Bank, Amazon Robotics, and over $3.5 million from our wonderful alumni. Since January, we have also received $49,850,736 million in funding from various federal agencies. These contributions have aided us significantly during these difficult financial times.
What makes these donations and fundraising results even more noteworthy is the fact that they occurred during the national and world-wide COVID-19 pandemic. For their generosity, I am profoundly grateful to the donors. I also wholeheartedly thank and appreciate the faculty, staff, and administrators for their hard work, dedication, and intellectual prowess in securing funds for their research and grant-writing interests.
