Dr. Stevie Watson, continues to make a significant impact through his leadership, scholarship, and commitment to student success. Now in his fourth year at Hampton University (and his 22nd year in higher education) Dr. Watson brings extensive academic and administrative experience to the table, having previously served as both an academic dean and department chair at multiple institutions. His excellence in research was recently recognized with the prestigious 2024–2025 JTG School of Business Dean’s Award for Scholarly Excellence.

Leadership and Recent Contributions

Dr. Watson currently serves as Chair of the Liaison Committee with the President, a key faculty body that advises the University President on matters affecting faculty and the educational program while also conveying faculty concerns and priorities to executive leadership. In addition, he chairs the Marketing and Promotions Committee for the JTG School of Business, where he collaborates closely with the Student Marketing Team to design and implement initiatives that enhance the school’s visibility and reputation.

A hallmark of Dr. Watson’s recent work is his forward-looking integration of emerging technologies into the curriculum. During the Spring 2026 semester, more than 90 undergraduate students across his four marketing courses successfully earned at least one AI certification in prompt engineering, an achievement that underscores Hampton University’s commitment to preparing students for the evolving digital marketplace.

Advancing Research and Collaboration

Dr. Watson also plays an important role in strengthening the school’s research culture. As coordinator of the Brown Bag Research Seminar Series, he helps create opportunities for faculty and students to present current or recently published research, exchange ideas, identify collaborators, and elevate the overall research environment within the JTG School of Business.

Industry Engagement and Student Opportunities

Committed to bridging classroom learning with real-world experience, Dr. Watson actively engages corporate partners and national competitions. He recently registered at Hampton University to participate in the Direct Effect Marketing Marketing Madness competition, which challenges student teams to demonstrate their marketing and design expertise while competing for classroom resource awards.

For the past two years, students in his MKT 417 – Advertising Management courses have also competed in the Digital Marketing Competition and Summit, where undergraduate teams develop comprehensive digital marketing campaigns for sponsoring clients. Finalist teams from around the world present their strategies directly to industry professionals, providing Hampton students with valuable exposure and experiential learning opportunities.

Notable Achievements

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Watson’s career includes several distinctive honors and experiences. He was named one of five national recipients of the 2010 Ernst & Young Inclusive Excellence Award for Accounting and Business School Faculty, selected from 100 nominees representing 39 universities. Earlier, he was one of three national recipients of the 2006 American Academy of Advertising Doctoral Dissertation Grant Competition Award.

Adding a unique personal note, Dr. Watson was also a contestant winner on the television game show “Let’s Make a Deal” (Season 5, Episode 30, aired November 3, 2013).
