Honda Campus All-Star Challenge History

In 1989, the American Honda Motor Company joined with the College Bowl Company to establish the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC), based on College Bowl—the Varsity Sport of the Mind. Honda’s commitment to HBCUs and their communities demonstrates their belief that success is not measured only in the cars they produce, but in the lives they enhance. HCASC shines the light on academics, the core mission of HBCUs, and has awarded nearly $10 million dollars in grants to the participating schools. These grants enhance student programs, foster institutional advancement and improve students’ college experience. The competition unites the entire campus community — students, faculty, staff, and alumni — in a collaborative show of HBCU pride and excellence.

Championship Team Roster

The championship team was coached by Stella Nelms, an academic counselor in the Office of Freshman Studies, and included team captain Miles Cross, a sophomore majoring in History on the Pre-Law track from Douglasville, GA.; Jaron Haynes, a freshman majoring in Business Administration from Snellville, GA.; Skai White, a sophomore majoring in Mathematics from Stockbridge, GA.; and Donte Wyatt, Jr., a sophomore majoring in Biology from San Diego, CA.

2024-2025 HCASC Season Accomplishments

Though the greatest accomplishment of the 2024-2025 HCASC season was the Championship win, the team had much to celebrate. During the 2024-2025 competition season, Hampton went undefeated during the Championship tournament and scored the highest per game scoring average in HCASC history. Individually each student was awarded a scholarship of $2500 from the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Foundation. One student in particular, Donte Wyatt Jr., was recognized for scoring the highest average score per game; an honor that he also won last year.
