Membership in the Honors College is a privilege.  Prospective students must be serious about academics and learning, desire to be an active rather than a passive learner, have an intellectual curiosity that supersedes an obsession with grades, seek success rather than avoid failure, and have the courage to be a leader.

The Honors College is built on three pillars: Academics, Leadership, and Service.  Academically, students must earn a 3.5 Cumulative Hampton University GPA to join the Honors College.  Applications are accepted in the Spring semester of each academic year.  As a member of the Honors College, students are required to maintain a 3.5 GPA and complete the following to graduate in the Honors College:

Requirements

  • 24 honors credit hours
  • COM 323 Argumentation and Debate or PHI 210 Logic
  • PHI 304 Ethics
  • 5 UNV Honors Seminars (UNV 200, 290, 300, 390, 400)
  • Senior Capstone Research Project
  • Present at a research conference
  • Apply to at least one prestigious scholarship
  • Take the qualifying exam for graduate or professional school

Students in the Honors College are encouraged to expound on their leadership skills by participating in the following:

  • Serve on one Honors College committee per academic year
  • Attend two Honors College Retreats per academic year

The Honors College prides itself on service.  Students in the Honors College must complete the following to graduate with honors.
