Dr. Neelam Azad, University Endowed Professor of Pharmacy, is the Vice President for Research at Hampton University (HU). Dr. Azad oversees HU’s research enterprise and manages units responsible for administration of sponsored projects, for research and regulatory compliance, as well as for interdisciplinary academic research centers. Dr. Azad possesses a wide range of experiences across many facets of the academic enterprise, having served as the Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences for eight years and briefly as the Assistant Vice President for Research and Director of the Cancer Research Center. Dr. Azad has secured funding for multiple investigator-initiated research projects, multidisciplinary grants, student training programs, and community outreach projects. As part of her strategic initiatives portfolio, she organizes faculty teams on developing new ideas and works with them on securing funding.
