William R Harvey Leadership Institute

History of WRHLI

The William R. Harvey Leadership Institute (WRHLI), founded in Fall 2000, is the vision of Dr. William R. Harvey, Hampton University’s 12th President. The institute aims to develop leaders who make a positive difference in society, regardless of their chosen profession. Dr. Harvey envisioned a program that emphasizes integrity, honesty, respect for others, decency, dignity, and responsibility. This objective is achieved through the use of Dr. Harvey’s Ten Step Leadership Model.

The WRHLI is an undergraduate program that enhances the regular university experience through an intensive, interactive curriculum comprised of 18 credit hours and a 400-hour service learning internship. Upon completion, students graduate with a minor in Leadership Studies.

The goal of the WRHLI is to prepare exceptional students for leadership roles in their professions and in their communities.
