1. What is the Hampton University Workforce Development Enterprise?
The Workforce Development Enterprise (WDE) provides short-term training programs, certifications, and skill-based courses designed to prepare individuals for immediate employment in high-demand trades and healthcare roles.
2. Where are you located?
Our administrative offices and training facilities are located at 303 Butler Farm Road, Suite 114, Hampton, VA 23669.
3. What are your hours of operation?
Administrative offices are open Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Training schedules vary by program, with both day and evening classes available.
4. Do you offer both day and night courses?
Yes. We have flexible scheduling options, including morning, afternoon, and evening classes to accommodate working adults.
5. How do I register for a program?
Prospective students can visit our website, call our main office, or visit in person to complete an application. Some programs may require placement testing or prerequisites.
6. Are financial aid or payment plans available?
Select programs may offer payment plans. While federal financial aid is not available for all certificate programs, other funding options, such as workforce development grants, may be available. Check eligibility here.
HVAC Technology FAQs (Core Curriculum & Levels 1–4)
1. What certifications are available in HVAC?
We offer the NCCER HVAC Technology Certificate Program, consisting of Core Curriculum and HVAC Levels 1–4.
2. What will I learn in the HVAC program?
Students gain hands-on training in blueprint reading, mechanical and electrical systems, installation and repair, system efficiency, ductwork, air conditioning applications, building codes, and more.
3. How long is the HVAC program?
Courses range from 6 to 10 weeks per level, with lecture and lab components.
4. Are evening classes available for HVAC?
Yes, both day and evening schedules are offered for certain levels.
5. Do I need prior experience to enroll?
No prior HVAC experience is required, though physical ability to perform the work is necessary.
Welding Technology FAQs
1. What welding certifications can I earn?
We offer certificates in SMAW I & II, GMAW, GTAW I & II, FCAW I & II, and Pipe Welding and Allied Cutting Processes.
2. How long are welding courses?
Programs run from 4 to 6 weeks per certification.
3. Will I be certified after completing the course?
Yes. Successful graduates can take a Welder Certification Test for industry-recognized credentials.
Propane Technology FAQs
1. What is the focus of the Propane Technology course?
This program trains students in the installation, maintenance, and safety procedures for propane distribution systems, including gas piping, appliance venting, regulators, meters, and leak checks.
2. How long is the course?
The program lasts 10 weeks and includes lecture, lab, and field training.
3. Do I need prior HVAC or plumbing experience?
No. There are no prerequisites beyond the physical ability to perform the work.
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) & Advanced CNA FAQs
1. What is the difference between the CNA and Advanced CNA programs?
The CNA program prepares students for entry-level patient care, while the Advanced CNA program provides additional skills in leadership, restorative care, cognitive care, and wound care for experienced CNAs.
2. How long are these programs?
Both tracks run for 8 weeks, combining classroom, skills lab, and clinical rotations.
3. What certification will I receive?
Graduates are eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam for state certification.
4. Are clinical hours included?
Yes. The CNA program includes at least 40 hours of direct patient care, with some in long-term care facilities.
