Through the Office of Admission, we proudly award competitive scholarships to outstanding first-time freshmen who are prepared to make meaningful contributions to our Home by the Sea.
Hampton University Merit Scholarship
- $10,000 - $25,000 / year for Incoming Fall Freshmen
- Automatic Consideration with your Hampton University Admission Application
- Qualify w / 3.3+ GPA & 1000+ SAT / 22+ ACT
- Renewable funding
Merit Scholarships
Eligible students are automatically considered for Office of Admission merit scholarships when theyĀ submit a completed admission application by the Early Action deadline. No separate scholarship application is required.Ā Hampton University offers merit-based scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 per academic year. Scholarship awards are competitive and based on the strength of each student’s application credentials.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be considered for a merit-based scholarship, applicants must:
- Submit a completed application for admission by the Early Action Deadline (November 15)
- Earn a minimum 3.5 unweighted cumulative GPA
- Submit official standardized test scores:
SAT: Minimum score of 1000 (Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and Math)
ACT: Minimum composite score of 22
Please Note: Students applying under Hampton University’s Test-Optional Admission Policy are not eligible for Office of Admission merit scholarships.Ā
Scholarship Selection Process
MeritĀ scholarship recipients are selected through a competitive review process. Awards are determined based on the overall strength of each student’s academic credentials, with standardized test scores serving as a significant factor in determining award amounts. Scholarship awards are offered on a rolling basis and remain available until allocated funding has been exhausted.
Students selected to receive a merit scholarship will receive an official scholarship award letter, which is emailed separately from the admission decision. Scholarship notifications are typically released beginning in late December.
Scholarship Renewal
Office of Admission Merit Scholarships may be renewed annually for up to three additional academic years as long as recipients remain enrolled full-time and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Hampton University Legacy Scholarship
- $1,000 / year admitted students with Alumni parents or great grandparents
- Renewable funding

The Hampton University Legacy Scholarship celebrates generations of families whose enduring connection has contributed to the University’s proud tradition of excellence.
A legacy student is defined as a first-time freshman who is a direct descendant of a Hampton University alumnus or alumna, including a parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent.
To remain eligible for the scholarship, recipients must:
- Maintain full-time enrollment at Hampton University
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.Ā

Important Notice
Scholarship consideration is extended only to students who satisfy all published eligibility requirements. Hampton University reserves the right to modify scholarship criteria, award amounts, deadlines, and availability at any time based on institutional priorities and available funding.
Students receiving scholarships through the Office of Admission, Athletic Department, Academic Departments, or other University sources should note the following:
- The total amount of institutional scholarships, grants, stipends, and other gift aid may not exceed the University’s direct educational costs, including tuition, mandatory fees, room, and board.
- All scholarship recipients are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for each academic year.
- Scholarship recipients must accept or decline their award within the timeframe specified in the scholarship notification. Failure to respond by the stated deadline may result in cancellation of the scholarship offer.
- Students seeking information regarding need-based financial assistance should contact the Office of Student Financial Aid.
