About Dr. Dejenie Lakew
Dr. Dejenie A. Lakew is an assistant professor and interim chair of the Department of Mathematics at Hampton University. His research focuses on functional analysis and hypercomplex function theory, in particular on abstract function spaces called Sobolev spaces, with particular emphasis on spaces with an inner product. These spaces have special properties called orthogonality, which makes them useful in applications in engineering and physics in particular.
Dr. Lakew is an active member of the global Mathematical Society in general and the American Mathematical Society in particular. He studied function spaces in various settings for a long time and has published several research results in international mathematical journals and on arXiv. He presented his results at the annual meetings of the American Mathematical Society and at departmental seminars at various universities. His current research focuses on fractional Sobolev spaces and boundary value problems, and established new results, which are published in the Pure and Applied Mathematics Journal and also appeared on arXiv. Besides, he is working on a new project: What is a Functional….? From the very definition to the deepest use of it, he eloquently presents the fascinating functionals. Dr. Lakew as an interim chair, manages departmental operations well.
