As America’s population continues to age, communities across the nation are confronting urgent health challenges that disproportionately affect older adults, including fall risk, chronic disease management, cognitive decline, and medication safety. On Wednesday, February 18 from 9 am – 12 pm, Hampton University addressed those realities and solutions with Golden Years Wellness Day, an interdisciplinary health and wellness fair designed to support adults age 65 and older throughout the Coastal Virginia region.
Golden Years Wellness Day was distinguished by its interdisciplinary approach. Faculty, students, and clinicians from Hampton University Physical Therapy, Communicative Sciences and Disorders, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, and the Counseling Center collaborated throughout the day, joined by partners including ECPI University’s Physical Therapist Assistant program. New academic collaborators this year include Hampton University Architecture, Counseling Graduate Program, and Norfolk State University Bachelor in Social Work program, expanding the Event’s reach to include environmental design, mental health, and social support systems that influence healthy aging.
