Dr.Travonia Brown-Hughes, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmacy received a $4.8 million R01 grant from The National Institute of Health (NIH) entitled, “The Black American United Memory & Aging Project (BA-UMAP)”. She is the first R01 grant recipient at Hampton University.

Dr. Deidre Gibson, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences, School of Science received $1.2 M grant from NSF for her proposal entitled, “Collaborative Research: Building Racial Equity in Marine Science.” Dr. Gibson was the recipient of $1.17 M award to support students and faculty research in marine and environmental science and is also funded through NOAA - Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC) to help address underrepresentation of minorities in marine sciences.

Dr. Calvin Lowe, Professor and former Dean of School of Science, has been awarded two grants for his fusion research work. He received $600K from the U.S. Department of Energy, Fusion Energy Sciences program for the design and construction of a HU located Stellarator and $1.76 M from Simons Foundation to support hiring of new faculty to work in the HU Stellarator.
