School of Pharmacy Student Organizations

The School of Pharmacy offers a wide variety of professional organizations to become a part of. These organizations are student run alongside faculty advisers. The School of Pharmacy professional student organizations build up the student relationships both inside and outside of the classroom, offer a network of connections, professional experiences, and support for their academic and professional careers. Hampton University School of Pharmacy student organizations give students the chance to impact their communities here in Hampton Roads, the state of Virginia, and the nation. The School of Pharmacy has a strong predisposition towards community outreach and volunteer opportunities, and our students continue those ideals within their organizations. 

Undergraduate Students

Pre-Pharmacy Club

The purpose of the Pre-Pharmacy Club is to introduce pre-professional students to the Pharmacy program. It is a place that allows students to create a support system and a network of experiences. Students participate in activities that further feed their interests in the Pharmacy profession. Students in the Pre-Pharmacy Club interact and utilize the professional students in the PharmD. program in order to gain valuable knowledge and perspective in regards to their own future goals. The Pre-Pharmacy Club is the entry to the many School of Pharmacy student organizations and the Pharmacy Program offered at the School of Pharmacy. 

Professional Students

Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy HU Chapter (AMCP)

Advisor:

The mission of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Hampton University Student Pharmacist Chapter is to encourage the education, development, and promotion of the principles and practices of managed care pharmacy. Our goal is to further, the purposes of AMCP through educational and community service, provide opportunities for professional growth, and promote managed care pharmacy.

Academy of Students of Pharmacy (ASP)

Advisor:

The Virginia Academy of Student Pharmacists is a student organization of the American Pharmacists Association. The organization promotes the professions of pharmacy through community service, public relations, and social awareness activities.

American Society of Health System Pharmacy (ASHP)

The mission of the Hampton University Student Society of Health-System Pharmacy is to make students knowledgeable and aware of health system practices, career directions and credentials needed for pharmacy practice in health systems, to encourage participation on both the state and national level of the society, and to maintain membership during pre and post-graduation. The Society offers experience and tools necessary for professional development and commitment to a career in clinical pharmacy.

National Community Pharmacists Associations (NCPA)

Advisor:

Hampton University Student Chapter of National Community Pharmacists Association fosters in students a dedication to the continued growth and prosperity of independent community pharmacy in the United States. NCPA represents the professional and proprietary interests of independent community pharmacists. This organization commits itself to restoring, maintaining, and promoting the health and well-being of the public they serve. The goal of this student organization is to increase awareness of the opportunities of owning your own pharmacy and to make aware the rewards and challenges of independent community pharmacy.

The Rho Chi Pharmaceutical Honor Society, Gamma XI Chapter

The Rho Chi Pharmaceutical National Honor Society, the Gamma Xi Chapter is the national honor society for Pharmacy and is recognized in national and international academic circles. The fundamental objective of Rho Chi is to promote the advancement of the pharmaceutical sciences through the encouragement and recognition of sound scholarship.

Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPHA)

Advisor:

The Student National Pharmaceutical Association is an education service association of pharmacy students who are concerned about the profession of pharmacy, healthcare issues, and the scarcity of minority representation in these areas. The purpose of SNAPhA is to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute programs geared toward the improvement of the health, educational, and social environment of minority communities.

Industry Pharmacists Organization (IPhO)

The Industry Pharmacists Organization is universally recognized within the pharmaceutical industry as being professionally equipped to contribute to the development, commercialization, promotion, and optimal use of medicines. The IPhO National Student Organization is dedicated to preparing student pharmacists to pursue pharmaceutical industry-focused career opportunities. They receive knowledge of key roles and driving forces within industry pharmacy, develop skills associated, and share experiences necessary to be successful in industry pharmacy.

Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Zeta Psi Chapter

The Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Incorporated is the oldest and largest pharmaceutical fraternity. Kappa Psi is a national organization that promotes the professional development of young pharmacy students. The main goal of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity is to promote pharmaceutical studies and to create a wide network of connections for both the present and future. The fraternity is open to all. Kappa Psi values community involvement and volunteer outreach. The society offers many opportunities in which students can develop leadership as well as professional skills.

Gentlemen in White Coats

Gentlemen in White Coats is a community service program that works to teach meaningful career and high education planning to Norfolk Public Schools at the Norfolk Technical Center. The organization offers inspiration and guidance for young gentlemen who are looking to pursue their best opportunities whether in education, careers, or both. 

Women with Doctorate Degrees

Women with Doctorate Degrees was formed to promote the academic, professional and personal growth of women in higher education, specifically those in pursuit of doctoral degrees.  By joining together, we hope to not only network with women in places we aspire to be, but also inspire the next generation to pursue their idea of success. We lift as we climb.
