Four students from the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications participated in a one-day workshop at WAVY TV 10 in Portsmouth, Va. The visit is key element of an on-going partnership between WAVY and the Scripps Howard School, and the second year students have been able to visit WAVY. Under the partnership, WAVY provides internships and opportunities for hands on training for Scripps Howard School students.
Attending were first-year student Ukeme Offiong, sophomores Caitlyn Fitzpatrick and Trinity Polk, and senior John Washington. They were introduced to several production and behind-the-scenes roles, tried their hands on full frame and remote control cameras and watched the production of the Hampton Roads Show. The students also met with executive leadership of WAVY including Carol Ward, general manager, Kathy Stone, news director and Stephanie Cooke, internship director.
