Dr. Charlotte Winston is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice
& Homeland Security at Hampton University. She earned her PhD in Sociology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Her teaching areas include introduction to sociology, social inequality, social problems, social research methods, health disparities, social theory, and senior thesis.
Dr. Winston’s research interests focus on social determinants of health, health inequities, health disparities, and community resilience. Before joining Hampton University, she taught for over 14 years at higher education institutions in the Metro-Detroit area, including the University of Michigan. Dr. Winston is dedicated to student-centered learning that promotes critical thinking and the practical application of sociological theory.
