Dr. Shu-Shan Lee

Biography

Dr. Shu-Shan Lee is a Fulbright Scholar from Taiwan and an Assistant Professor of Political Science and History at Hampton University. He earned his Ph.D. in Politics from the University of Virginia, specializing in political theory with a secondary concentration in American politics. His research lies at the intersection of comparative political theory and empirical political analysis, focusing on Confucian political thought, political obligation, and democracy in East Asia.

Dr. Lee’s work integrates philosophical inquiry with survey and interview methods. He has published peer-reviewed articles in Dao: A Journal of Comparative Philosophy, Taiwanese Journal of Political Science, Reflexion, Taiwan: A Radical Quarterly in Social Studies, and Thought and Culture. One of his articles in Dao received the journal’s Annual Best Essay Award. His research has been supported by grants from the ACLS, UNCF-Mellon, and Ching-Kuo Foundation.

At Hampton University, Dr. Lee teaches courses in political theory, research methods, feminist political theory, and democratic theory. He serves as Faculty Advisor to Pi Sigma Alpha and as Secretary of the Virginia Social Science Association.
