Professor Stacey Privett

Assistant Professor of Kinesiology

Biography

Stacey Privett is an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology in the Department of Sports Science and Wellness at Hampton University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s degree in Human Movement Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University, and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education at Old Dominion University. This academic background provides a robust foundation in exercise science and student-centered educational practices.

Prior to her appointment at Hampton University, Professor Privett was a research assistant for the T.E.E.N.S. Program, a comprehensive weight management initiative for obese adolescents in Richmond, Virginia. In this role, she conducted exercise testing to assess maximal oxygen consumption and body composition. Her work contributed to evidence-based interventions to improve adolescent health outcomes. This experience strengthened her applied approach to research and kinesiology education.

At Hampton University, Professor Privett emphasizes holistic student development. Her educational philosophy centers on promoting self-efficacy and resilience, supporting students as they navigate academic and personal challenges. She is committed to fostering student confidence and developing the skills necessary for sustained success in health and human performance fields.

Professor Privett’s research addresses student success at Hampton University, proactive academic advising, and program evaluation. Her scholarship reflects a commitment to improving educational outcomes through data-driven strategies and targeted student support.

Her areas of expertise include exercise physiology, exercise testing, and academic advising. Beyond her academic responsibilities, Professor Privett engages in strength training and values time with her husband and two children. Through her professional expertise and commitment to student development, she continues to make a significant impact within the university community.
