Winds, brass, and percussion auditions for large ensembles (Concert Band and Symphonic Winds) will take place during New Student Orientation Week (August 20 -25, 2026). 

Auditions will be held upstairs in the Convocation Center (700 Emancipation Drive). You may sign up for a time on the bulletin board outside of the band hall beginning August 19th. 

Students will be assigned to an ensemble based on the needs of each ensemble for each semester. Additionally, ALL MUSIC, MRT, PRE-CERTIFICATION, AND PERFORMANCE MAJORS must sign up for Symphonic Winds (Band 112) for both the fall AND spring semesters. If you are unable to do so due to scheduling issues, please contact Dr. Snead. This audition will serve as chair placement as well as your first grade of the semester. All non-major auditions will serve as ensemble AND chair placement auditions for the semester. 

Winds will perform their chromatic scale (full range of the instrument), two major scales (full range), and two excerpts. Percussionists will perform their chromatic scale (full range of the marimba), two scales (full range of the marimba) of the adjudicator’s choosing, and three excerpts (marimba, snare, and timpani).
