Dr. Willie Gilchrist Stanfield - Director of Nursing Non-Traditional Programs Assistant Professor

Dr. Sledge is an alumna of the Hampton University School of Nursing earning her baccalaureate degree. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL, where she specialized in nursing education and Maternal and Child Health. She earned a Doctorate in Education from Edgewood College in Madison, WI. Throughout her 25-year career, Dr. Sledge has specialized in nursing education, obstetrics, and pediatric nursing and she is currently actively involved in clinical practice. She has enjoyed engaging in active learning pedagogies that have shaped her students into competent, caring nursing professionals and lifelong learners for over 15 years.
Her research priority is focused on the application of critical theories and sustainability in the recruitment and retention of Black students in healthcare-related programs.
