Dr. Alberto Sosa-Cabanas

Assistant Professor of Spanish

Biography

Dr. Sosa-Cabanas is a Cuban-born critic of Latin American literature and culture. He holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature from Florida International University, with secondary fields in both African Diaspora and Caribbean Studies. He earned his B.A. in Literature and Linguistics at the University of Havana, Cuba. His academic work on the intersections between racism and cultural production has received numerous awards and recognitions, including fellowship support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice (ISGRJ), the Tinker Foundation, and the Cuban Research Institute (FIU). Before coming to Hampton, Dr. Sosa-Cabanas served as the ACLS Emerging Voices Postdoctoral Fellow at Rutgers University. He has taught classes in New York City, New Jersey, Havana, Miami, and Charleston.
