Virginia Lacy Jones

Virginia Lacy Jones was a pioneering librarian and educator. She was one of the first African Americans to earn a PhD in Library Science and became dean of Atlanta University’s School of Library Sciences, where she served for over three decades and was a leading voice in the education of African American librarians. During the 36 years Jones spent as dean, the school trained some 1,800 black librarians, which was more than any other school in the country.
