University’s First Couple and their family

Lieutenant General (Retired) Darrell K. Williams and Mrs. Myra Williams, the esteemed President and First Lady of Hampton University, share a remarkable journey that began on the very campus they now lead. Both Psychology majors and members of the distinguished Class of 1983, known as “Radiance,” they met as students at their beloved Home by the Sea in 1979. As a standout cadet, Darrell K. Williams exemplified leadership, serving as Class President and a proud member of the Gamma Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Myra Williams enriched campus life as a member of the University Choir and the Gamma Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. They are the proud parents of two adult children, Jocelyn Williams Cooper and Colin E. Williams, Esq.

Their return marks a historic moment for Hampton University: Darrell K. Williams is the first alumnus to ascend to the presidency, and together, they are the first alumni couple to serve as the University’s First Couple. Their partnership in leadership embodies a deep commitment to Hampton’s legacy and a shared vision for its future.
