Hampton University School of Nursing Program Overview
This fully online program is designed to support the academic progression of working nurses. It is delivered in an Accelerated 12-month format, allowing students to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree while maintaining a work-life balance.Courses are structured in 8-week sessions, enabling focused, intensive learning while accommodating professional and personal responsibilities, making it ideal for working nurses.
Program Structure
The RN to BSN program is delivered in a fully online format, offering two academic tracks to meet students’ individual needs:
- Accelerated Track – Complete the program in 12 months
- Extended Track – Complete the program over two years
Courses are offered in 8-week sessions, allowing students to focus intensively on individual courses while balancing personal and professional commitments. The program is designed to support work-life balance.
Degree Requirements
To earn the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, students must complete a total of 120 semester hours. This includes:
- General Education Credits (GEC): 55 semester hours
These credits may be transferred from an accredited Associate Degree or Diploma program in Nursing, or they may be completed through Hampton University or another accredited institution.
- RN Advanced Placement Credits: 32 semester hours
Granted upon completion of an accredited associate degree or Diploma in Nursing. - Nursing Curriculum: 33 semester hours
Completed through Hampton University’s RN to BSN program.
Academic Standards
Students must achieve a cumulative average of 78% in all nursing courses to meet program completion requirements.

Applicants must submit the following for consideration:
- A completed online application to Hampton University: https://home.hamptonu.edu/online/
- Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities.
- Proof of a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
- Completion of all required General Education courses.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and a grade of “C” or higher in all prerequisite courses
- Note: All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to the start of the RN to BSN program.
