2024 Summer Virginia Space Grant Consortium Media Internship

Deadline: April 12, 2024 

Period of Performance: Select Weeks From June 10 to August 9, 2024 

Pay: $15/hour

Position Description: VSGC media interns will support the media specialist and communications program coordinator in documenting and sharing the work that VSGC is doing with students and educators at NASA, Virginia colleges and universities, and science museums. The ideal candidate for this internship position will have photography and videography skills, communication skills, social media skills, an understanding of professionalism, and a grasp on time management. Daily and Weekly Responsibilities: Capture photos and videos during assigned events, store, edit, and post-process video and photographs, upload media to various sharing platform, produce videos

Skills and Qualifications: Current college/university student, working knowledge of DSLR cameras for both photo and video, proficient with video editing techniques and photo post-processing techniques, ability to pass a NASA security review to obtain a NASA badge to access NASA, flexibility with weekend and evening work and overnight travel (mileage will be reimbursed and appropriate overtime will be paid)

WUNC (North Carolina Public Radio) Newsroom Internship

Deadline: April 22, 2024 

WUNC Radio provides quality news, information and entertainment programming to a broad listening audience that includes North Carolina, the United States and the world. WUNC serves North Carolinians from Greensboro to the Outer Banks through a network of seven stations.

North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC is hiring an intern as a news reporter. The position is paid, and will be under the supervision of our Daily News Editor. This internship will be for the Summer with possibilities to extend to the Fall.

The news intern will be responsible for writing and producing audio and digital stories for our daily broadcast newscasts as well as online platforms. They will have opportunities to complete feature stories, as time allows. They may also perform administrative tasks or duties as assigned. Students are asked to dedicate one or two days a week during regular business hours preferred (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.).

The position will be in-person with some possibilities for hybrid/remote work. A computer will be provided. The salary is $18 per hour. The position is expected to start in May.

Minimum Education & Experience Required: High school diploma or equivalency and completion of a two-year technical school program in electronics; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

This position is open to currently enrolled students and recent graduates. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Journalism and radio experience preferred.

Haitian Times Summer Internship

Job Description

The Haitian Times, an English-language digital news publication based in Brooklyn, NY, is seeking a General Assignment Intern to join its team in New York during the summer. Our mission is to provide nuanced reporting about Haiti, chronicle the journey of Haitian Americans across the U.S., and elevate emerging journalists into highly skilled, ethical practitioners of the trade.

As a General Assignment Intern, you will pitch, report and write compelling stories about Haitian communities in the New York City area, primarily in Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island and parts of New Jersey to help us tell our audience how Haitians are navigating life in America. 

The ideal candidate has a passion for news and the ability to work collaboratively with team members in a fast-paced environment. To be successful, you must be a critical thinker and have solid interviewing, research and writing skills. You must also be able to create multi-media packages to accompany stories on haitiantimes.com  and social platforms. 

Qualifications

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, newsroom 
  • A self-starter with a strong drive for enterprise and a hunger to get published
  • Experience with Google Drive, WordPress (or other CMS) and social media platforms
  • Basic photo capturing and editing skills 
  • Fluency in Creole, HTML knowledge preferred, but not required
  • A strong journalism or writing background is preferred

  • Provide support for games, concerts, and live events at Capital One Arena as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Related internships or college course work in public relations, journalism, communications, or sports management.
  • Excellent writing skills and proven ability to produce long or short form content.
  • Demonstrated understanding of media relations and social media.
  • Proven ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and complete in a timely manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills, organizational skills, critical thinking and general digital literacy.
  • Basic level proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Knowledge of sports business industry, current issues, and relevant topics.
  • Understanding of the overall branding and messaging goals of MSE.

National Endowment for Democracy – Intern, Communications and Public Engagement

Position Summary: 

The Communications and Public Engagement Department at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as a paid Intern for Summer 2024. As a member of our Communications and Public Engagement team, this intern will have opportunities to gain experience in media relations, research and writing, campaigns, web and digital engagement, event management, storytelling, and video production.  The intern will be part of a dynamic team of professional communicators and will gain exposure to leading experts and advocates working in support of democratic development and human rights around the world.

Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be a registered student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate-level program
  • Qualified candidates should have excellent writing and analytical skills, sharp attention to detail, and strong technical skills. Website/CMS experience is preferred. Multimedia experience is a plus
  • Motivated creative thinker with a strong work ethic

Time Commitment: 30-34 hrs./week (not to exceed 40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship.
