Frankie Muse Freeman

Frankie Muse Freeman was a pioneering civil rights attorney. She was the first woman to be appointed to the United States Commission on Civil Rights, a federal fact-finding body that investigates complaints alleging discrimination, serving for 14 years in that position. She was also instrumental in creating the Citizens’ Commission on Civil Rights founded in 1982. Freeman dedicated her career to fighting for racial equality and social justice through legal advocacy.
