Investigations

The investigations unit is comprised of two University police officers who have been selected by the Chief of Police because of their basic investigative skills. Once these members are selected, they are given additional training through a program that is supported by the local municipal police agency of the Hampton Police Division. The ranking member of the investigations unit assumes the additional role of unit supervisor.
Investigators are assigned cases that require detailed inquiry that is normally beyond the scope of the patrol officer, who is usually the person who has taken the initial crime report. Investigators are assigned all felony cases, such as robbery, grand larceny, burglary, forgery and uttering, felonious assault, sexual assault, and homicide. They are also assigned some of the more serious misdemeanors.
The goal of the unit is to vigorously pursue and prosecute all criminal offenders to the fullest extent of the law.
