About
Dr. Latasha M. Williams, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Hampton University, where her teaching, research, and mentorship reflect a deep commitment to advancing culturally responsive and integrative approaches within psychological science. With over 15 years of professional experience in clinical psychology, Dr. Williams has provided psychodynamic-oriented psychotherapy and conducted comprehensive psychological evaluations across academic and forensic settings.
Dr. Williams’ academic career includes prior appointments as an adjunct professor at Regent University’s Psy.D. program and Tidewater Community College, where she contributed to both undergraduate and graduate education through course development, instruction, and student mentorship. At Hampton University, she teaches a diverse range of courses, including physiological psychology, statistics, abnormal psychology, human growth and development, and Black marital relationships, while actively mentoring student researchers and supporting academic development.
Her scholarship is situated at the intersection of neuroscience, physiological psychology, and the psychology of religion and spirituality. Dr. Williams is the developer of the Biopsychospiritual Integration Framework, an innovative model designed to systematically examine the biological, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of human experience within a scientifically grounded and ethically responsible paradigm. Drawing from this framework, she designed and teaches the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality course, equipping students to critically engage questions of meaning, faith, and mental health through rigorous psychological theory, empirical research, and ethical clinical reasoning.
Dr. Williams’ research program further explores the relationship between religious experience and psychological functioning, with particular emphasis on schizophrenia, spiritual meaning-making, and culturally grounded frameworks of mental health within Black communities. She is the author of The War Within: An Exposition of Schizophrenia and Demon Possession and has presented her work at national and institutional conferences, contributing to ongoing scholarly dialogue at the intersection of psychology, theology, and culture.
