Newly Announced Partnership Creates Pathways for Cultural Exchange and International Learning in Education City, Qatar
HAMPTON, Va. (July 1, 2026) — Hampton University has entered into a new partnership with the Qatar Foundation that will create transformative study-abroad opportunities for students within one of the world’s most innovative educational ecosystems, Education City in Doha, Qatar.
The agreement, announced during the NAFSA 2026 Annual Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida, joins Hampton University with Xavier University of Louisiana and Prairie View A&M University in a collaborative effort supported by the Embassy of Qatar in Washington, D.C. The initiative is designed to deepen cultural understanding and strengthen academic exchange between students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities and their counterparts in Qatar.

Education City, home to leading global institutions and research centers, offers students a unique environment where academic excellence, innovation, and cross-cultural learning converge.
“These agreements reflect Qatar Foundation’s commitment to building globally connected learning environments and advancing partnerships that promote inclusion, cultural exchange, and academic excellence,” said Francisco Marmolejo, president of Higher Education and Education Advisor for Qatar Foundation.
“Hosting students from U.S. Historically Black Colleges and Universities for a semester at universities based in Education City will enrich the academic experience for all involved, energizing classroom discussions and deepening global understanding, while fostering a dynamic and reciprocal learning environment that benefits both visiting and local students culturally, socially, and academically. We are grateful to the Embassy of Qatar in Washington, D.C. for their invaluable support toward advancing this important initiative.”
The partnership advances Hampton University’s commitment to preparing students to lead in an increasingly interconnected world through immersive global experiences and international collaboration.
“This partnership between Hampton University and Qatar Foundation represents a significant step forward in our commitment to global education and student success,” said Al Zain Zee Al Zain, director of Hampton University’s International Office.

“Through this collaboration, our students will gain access to transformative international experiences that broaden their perspectives, enhance their academic and professional development, and prepare them to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. We are proud to partner with Qatar Foundation to create meaningful opportunities that empower Hampton students and strengthen our global engagement efforts.”
The agreement expands Hampton’s growing portfolio of international partnerships and reinforces the University’s mission of producing global leaders equipped to navigate diverse cultures, economies, and industries.
The announcement also launches Hampton Cup ’26: All the Places We’ll Go, a summerlong storytelling series highlighting the international destinations, academic exchanges, and life-changing experiences that are broadening the horizons of Hampton students across the globe.
