Students have a decision about where to register to vote. You have a right to register to vote at the address you consider the place where you live, whether that is your family’s home or the place where you attend school. You should update your registration anytime this home address changes, including when you move to new on-campus housing or off-campus. You may only be registered and vote in one location. Important Information
- Complete a voter registration application in-person by visiting our office at: Hampton Voter Registrar’s Office, 101 King’s Way, Hampton, VA 23669 — Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
- Complete a voter registration application on-line through the Va. Dept. of Elections [vote.elections.virginia.gov]“Virginia Citizen Portal” [vote.elections.virginia.gov] >> scroll down towards the bottom of the page >> click the green “GO” button >> select the green “Register to Vote” button
- Monday through Friday — 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (the last day of “early in-person” voting is 11/01/25)
- Sunday 10/12/25 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday 10/25/25 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday 11/01/25 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (this is the last day of “early in-person” voting)
- The easiest way to vote by mail in Virginia is to make a request to do so on-line through the Va. Dept. of Elections [vote.elections.virginia.gov]“Virginia Citizen Portal” [vote.elections.virginia.gov] >> scroll down towards the bottom of the page >> click the green “GO” button >> select the green “Apply to Vote Absentee by Mail” button.
- The deadline to request to vote by mail is 5:00 p.m. On 10/24/25
- There are different ways you can return your “vote by mail” ballot to us:
- Through the mail by: (1) properly complete your ballot (2) it must be postmarked on or before 11/04/25, and (3) received by our office no later than 11/07/25
- Hand deliver to our office by properly completing your ballot and hand-delivering it to our office at: Hampton Voter Registrar’s Office, 101 King’s Way, Hampton, VA 23669 no later than 7:00 p.m. on the 11/04/25 Election Day
- Hand deliver to a “Ballot Drop-Box” on the 11/04/25 Election Day by properly completing your ballot and delivering it to any Ballot Drop-Box on the 11/04/25 Election Day — but you must deliver no later than 7:00 p.m. on the 11/04/25 Election Day. You can find a Ballot Drop-Box at any precinct polling location across the City of Hampton or by visiting our office.
- ELECTION DAY PRECINCT POLLING LOCATIONS ARE OPEN FROM 6:00 a.m. UNTIL 7:00 p.m. — You must be in line no later than 7:00 p.m. — As long as you are in line by 7:00 p.m. you will be allowed to cast a ballot (do not leave the line!)
- YOU MUST VOTE AT THE PRECINCT POLLING LOCATION WHERE YOU ARE DESIGNATED TO VOTE — You will not be allowed to vote if you visit the wrong precinct polling location! You can make sure you are going to the correct location either by: calling our office at: (757) 727-6218 or, if you are already registered to vote, by: checking on-line through the Va. Dept. of Elections [vote.elections.virginia.gov]“Virginia Citizen Portal” [vote.elections.virginia.gov] >> scroll down towards the bottom of the page >> click the green “GO” button >> select the green “Find your polling place” button
- PLEASE BRING A VALID FORM OF ID — We accept many different forms of ID (e.g., Hampton University Student ID Card; Virginia Driver’s License). Please call our office at (757) 727-6218 for more information about the many different forms of valid ID we accept.
- CURBSIDE VOTING — If you are 65 or older or have a disability, you may vote from your car / vehicle by visiting our office during the period of “Early In-Person” voting or by visiting your designated polling location on the 11/04/25 Election Day. When you arrive, please locate the parking space(s) marked with a “Curbside Voting” sign. This sign will instruct you to call our office at (757) 727-6218 so that we are aware of your arrival. Please be patient, we will be outside to assist you shortly.
- VOTER ASSISTANCE — You may ask for assistance. You may bring someone with you or ask that one of our election officials assist you with the voting process. This resource is also available to foreign language speakers. Please note, you (the voter) must be the one asking for the assistance (verbally or in writing) — that is, someone else cannot make this request for you.
- ACCESSIBLE TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT — If you are blind, have low vision, or have impaired manual dexterity (e.g., have difficulty hand marking your ballot), accessible voting options are available, including but not limited to using an electronic ballot marking tool and / or accessible voting equipment located at our office as well as at all precinct polling locations. Our elections officials can assist you in accessing these options.
- You should never be denied the ability to cast a ballot. You may be asked to vote using a Provisional Ballot in certain situations (e.g., your name does not appear on the list of registered voters; you forgot to bring a valid form of ID and refuse to sign an ID Conformation Statement).
- You may ask for a new ballot if you want to change your vote before you cast it.
- As long as you are in line no later than 7:00 p.m. on the 11/04/25 Election Day you will be able to vote even after the precinct polling location closes — do not leave the line!
Get engaged, serve our community, and come work for our office — we pay! If you are interested in serving as an “Officer of Election” (poll worker), please visit our office in downtown Hampton at: Hampton Voter Registrar’s Office, 101 King’s Way, Hampton, VA 23669 — Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Voting early allows you to choose a convenient time for you, and it’s often less crowded than Election Day – which helps you and those who are working at the polls. In-person voting begins September 20 at all Virginia voting locations.
Be sure to check your registration status in advance, and bring an approved form of ID.
- October 29 is National Vote Early Day
- November 2 is the last day to vote early. Office closes at 5 pm.
You may apply to vote absentee by mail in Virginia. October 25 is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot. If you are registered outside of Virginia, check your state’s regulations.
November 5 is your last chance to vote in the 2024 election. If you have not yet registered to vote, you can participate in Same Day Voter Registration and vote with a provisional ballot, which will be counted after confirming your eligibility to register.
Registering before October 15 and voting early will help you avoid the potential of longer lines and ensure your ballot is counted right away.
