
(Hampton, VA – October 20, 2025) – Hampton University proudly announces the appointment of NFL quarterback and Hampton native Tyrod Taylor as the Inaugural Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In this new role, Taylor will leverage his leadership, entrepreneurial vision, and commitment to community empowerment to inspire and prepare the next generation of innovators.
As part of his appointment, Taylor will launch the Tyrod Taylor Strive Academy within the Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to complement Hampton University’ accelerated B.S. and M.S. program in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The Strive Academy will offer certificate programs in high-growth and creative industries, including culinary, fashion and beauty, technology, and entertainment. These programs are designed to equip students with practical skills and industry knowledge that expand career pathways and entrepreneurial opportunities.

This collaboration brings real-world mentorship and cutting-edge technology under one roof, giving our students the kind of access and inspiration that changes lives.”
The Strive Academy will also debut its Speaker Series in Fall 2025, bringing prominent industry leaders and trailblazers to Hampton University’s campus to share their journeys, insights, and expertise with students and the broader community. All Fall 2025 events will be hosted at Suite 1400 – Center for Culinary Arts & Business Networking (2 Eaton Street, Hampton, VA). Scheduled events include:

- October 24 – Alumni Brunch & Entrepreneurship Panel featuring Hampton alumni Alex Hill ‘10 (Recipe Developer, Creator & Host of Tastemade’s Spice Spice Baby), Deron Hogans ‘10 (Founder of Deux Digital & Service Designer), Somos Thompson ‘05 (Designer & Co-Founder of For The Fan), and Kadidja Dosso ‘17(CEO & Founder of Dosso Beauty)
- October 30 – Essentials of Entrepreneurship featuring Ricky Parker (Advisor, Tyrod Taylor Strive Academy)
- November 20 – LVMH Career Conversations Panel featuring Corey Smith (Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at LVMH North America), Nicky Grays (Vice President of Human Resources at LVMH Fashion Group), and Jasmine Humphrey (Director of Campus & Cultural Engagement at LVMH North America)

In addition, Taylor will spearhead the launch of Pirate Valet, a student-run business venture developed in partnership with Hampton University. Pirate Valet will provide transportation services to meet the daily mobility needs of students across campus and will also serve as a logistical resource for large-scale events hosted by the University. This initiative will provide students with hands-on business management experience while enhancing campus life and university event operations.
