This program has grown to help support the broader Hampton community with financial wellness and investment resources.
Hampton, VA, December 13, 2024 – Hampton University and Stackwell, an innovative fintech platform dedicated to closing the racial wealth gap by increasing the financial wellness and ownership of financial assets by diverse Americans, today announced the expansion of the Hampton Investment Program. Following the success of the pilot launched in 2022 with first-year students, Hampton University and Stackwell are excited to broaden the program for both students and the entire Hampton community, continuing their commitment to promoting financial wellness and generational wealth building through investment in financial markets. This year, Hampton has increased student incentives, expanded the reach of the program to students in every class year, and invited the broader Hampton community to explore investment education through Stackwell’s in-app Learning Center with a limited number of free Stackwell accounts.
As the program enters its third year, Hampton and Stackwell are expanding their groundbreaking investment program’s reach from Hampton’s freshman class to students across all class years and increasing seed funding for student investors. The program will now provide funded Stackwell investment accounts to up to 500 Hampton students. Each participating student will receive a free account and $150 in seed funding, a significant increase from the $25 provided in previous years. In addition to new investing opportunities, all students are invited to attend investment education workshops and explore the Stackwell Learning Center—an in-app investment education tool that covers essential topics such as saving, investing, credit management, and goal setting. The Hampton Investment Program is the first program in the country where a university offers both investment education and funded investment accounts to its entire student body.
“At Hampton University, we’re deeply committed to empowering our students and the broader community through financial education and investment opportunities. The expansion of the Hampton Investment Program, in partnership with Stackwell, represents a significant step forward in our mission to promote financial wellness and generational wealth,” said Hampton University President Darrell K. Williams.
“By providing increased access to investment resources and education, we are not only equipping our students with essential financial skills but also fostering a culture of financial empowerment that will benefit our entire community for years to come.”
Keeping with Hampton’s broader commitment to financial wellness for the members of the Hampton community, the program has been expanded beyond Hampton’s student body to offer investment education resources to faculty, staff, alumni, and parents. The revamped program will provide access to Stackwell’s Learning Center and waive investment account fees for up to 800 Hampton community members. This expansion provides the Hampton community with resources to strengthen their investment knowledge and continue building generational wealth.
“We’re proud to be continuing our partnership with Hampton this year,” said Founder and CEO of Stackwell Trevor Rozier-Byrd. “The expansion of this program means that more of the Hampton community can invest and learn alongside Stackwell to build a thriving Hampton community. We’re excited to see you on campus this year!”
The partnership between Stackwell and Hampton University deepens Hampton’s ongoing efforts to promote financial literacy and wellness across its community. Stackwell’s investment education complements Hampton’s existing financial education program provided by the Society for Financial Education and Professional Development (SFEPD), which encourages participants to apply investment knowledge in real-world scenarios. Hampton’s dedication to securing the financial futures of its students has helped its graduates achieve the third-highest median salaries among all HBCUs, further underscoring its commitment to student success.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for our students and the entire Hampton University Community. As a former Hampton student majoring in Finance years ago, I can only imagine what an opportunity like this would have added to my overall finance and Investment experiences,” said Assistant Dean and Assistant Professor of Finance Dr. Sylvia Rose, Esq.
“As a current Professor and Assistant Dean in the School of Business, I’m extremely excited to see this Partnership with Stackwell, that allows the Hampton community to gain invaluable investment training and experience while in a safe learning environment. This experience will pay it forward for years to come, not only for the current students, but for their families as well.”
Stackwell’s Learning Center is now available to all Hampton students and community members on the Stackwell app. Students who are interested in receiving a funded Stackwell investment account should complete a student interest form to apply. To receive the full $150 grant, students must attend one investment education workshop hosted by Stackwell throughout the school year. Hampton alumni, parents, faculty, and staff interested in waiving the fee for new Stackwell investment accounts should complete a community member interest form.
