Student Career and Internship Opportunities
A wide variety of opportunities are open to the graduates of the Department of Sociology who acquire a strong background in liberal arts education such as excellence in critical thinking, scientific bent of mind, ethical learning, global and humanistic thinking, and leadership skills. Graduates with a strong liberal arts background are the leaders and shapers of today’s high-tech global society. Several of our graduates were hired by the FBI, CIA, Defense Intelligence Agency, Department of Justice, and the Department of Homeland Security. Some of the internship sites utilized by our students of sociology and criminal justice include Hampton Probation and Parole, Hampton Roads Regional Jail, Hampton Sheriff’s department, Sexual Assault Center, Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Hampton-Newport News Community Service Board, Maryland Parole and Probation, and Yale Entrepreneurial Institute.
