Student Research Opportunities

The University of California system, as a whole, offers summer research opportunities through Leadership Studies, which also offers competitive scholarships for summer research at Ivy League institutions. In particular, the Department of English and Foreign Languages has created a bridge program with UC Davis to help create a pipeline for PhD students in English.

The Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers offers support for graduate study and applications to Hampton University students. Throughout the years, many English majors with an interest in teaching have successfully taken advantage of this opportunity.

The Department of English and Foreign Languages has also had students/alumni to earn scholarships for onsite summer research at the Schomburg Center in New York. Most recently alumnus Jeremiah Carter participated in this program via his graduate institution.
