Student Life

“As an English major with an emphasis in creative writing and as a trombonist in the Marching Force, I spend most of my time in a creative space. I’m being exposed to an array of writers and learning to analyze their work, which helps me incorporate new themes and perspectives into my poems, songs, and stories. I’m able to share my creations with other students by joining writing clubs, participating in open mics, and performing around campus. Having these artistic outlets allow me to connect with my classmates while disconnecting from the stresses of work and math class.”

~ Xavier Hawkins, Class of 2023

“Being a School of Liberal Arts major has provided me with many enriching opportunities outside of the classroom. I have been able to join major-related organizations at the University such as Sigma Tau Delta, Calliope Literary and Film Society, and HerCampus. My most joyous community service moments were fulfilled through the Student Recruitment Team. Go Pirates!”

~ Drew Miles, Class of 2022
