Research Interests
Dr. Lakhssassi is a plant nematologist, molecular physiologist, geneticist, and genomicist who was actively involved in discovering and cloning novel disease-resistant genes involved in nematode infections, and seed-trait improvement using modern experimental approaches, including germplasm selection, haplotype associations, marker identification, mutational breeding, hairy root transformation, breeding by design, TILLING-by-sequencing+, and MutMap+ technologies. His research mainly focuses on deciphering the mechanistic reaction of how plants can fight nematode attacks and develop plant-resistant varieties. This is in addition to the identification of gene candidates underlying economically important qualities like protein, fatty acid, vitamins, and carbohydrates.
