Center for Nuclear Fusion Research and Training

The HU Center for Nuclear Fusion Research and Training is the first and only center for research and training in controlled thermonuclear fusion research and training at an HBCU in the nation, as well as in the state of Virginia. The research and student training in the center are supported by US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fusion Energy Science (OFES). The supercomputing facilities for research and training are provided by the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in Berkeley, California. The research in the center is focused on the simulation of nonresonant stellarator divertors and tokamak divertors. The center trains and provides research experiences to students from high school level all the way up to PhD level, with special focus on underrepresented minority and female students in the departments of mathematics, physics, computer science, and engineering.
