The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Hampton University participates in the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Services (PTCAS, ptcas.org). Applicants applying to the entry-level professional physical therapist program must apply online using the PTCAS application. Hampton University DPT PTCAS application opens on June 16 of the year preceding anticipated admission and remains open through January 15 of the anticipated admission year.

- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended.Please note that all application materials must be uploaded into PTCAS and should not be sent to the Department of Physical Therapy or the Graduate College.
The Department of Physical Therapy Virtual Interest Meetings are scheduled at 6 PM on the third Wednesday of each month during June to February. Please register HERE.
Prerequisite and admissions criteria are as follows:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Completion of the following courses or their equivalent with a grade of C or higher:
Course Hours General Biology I w/lab 4 hrs General Chemistry I w/lab 4 hrs General Chemistry II w/lab 4 hrs General Physics I w/lab 4-5 hrs General Physics II w/lab 4-5 hrs Human Anatomy w/lab 4 hrs Human Physiology w/lab 3 hrs Introduction to Statistics 3 hrs General Psychology 3 hrs - A minimum of 40 hours of volunteer or work experience in physical therapy (hospital, clinic etc.) with documentation signed by a licensed physical therapist.
- A 3.0 cumulative GPA of all coursework with a minimum GPA of 2.8 for science prerequisite courses;
- A knowledge of the profession as evidenced by a personal statement detailing the reasons for professional choice;
- Two letters of recommendation addressing the applicant’s moral character and suitability for a physical therapy career, one letter must be written by a licensed physical therapist;
- All science prerequisites must have been completed within the last eight (8) years.
Please Note: Prerequisite courses in progress must be completed by June 30th prior to fall semester enrollment. An updated transcript should be sent to PTCAS. Anatomy and physiology can be taken as a combined course only if the two part sequence is completed (4 credits and lab for each). The other option is separate courses (4 credits plus lab for Human Anatomy and 3 credits no lab for Human Physiology).Â
