Licensure Disclosure Statement for the Department of Physical Therapy

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is housed within the Hampton University School of Science and is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The program meets educational requirements for physical therapist licensure in 50 U.S. states including the Commonwealth of Virginia; the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each jurisdiction requires proof of graduation from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist education program and a passing score on the National Physical Therapy Examination. Information about the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) Jurisprudence Assessment Module as a jurisdictional requirement for physical therapist licensure in the states of Alabama, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Kansas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, and Texas is available at the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy website located at https://www.fsbpt.org/OurServices/Jurisprudence-Assessment-Module-JAM-Services
 
The Physical Therapy Compact is an Agreement between member jurisdictions that serves to improve access to physical therapy services through increased mobility to practice physical therapy across multiple jurisdictions (https://ptcompact.org/ptc-states). As of April 2025, the Physical Therapy Compact includes 33 active member jurisdictions that are accepting and issuing compact privileges. These member jurisdictions are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Six jurisdictions have enacted legislation but are not yet issuing or accepting Compact privileges: Alaska, Connecticut, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Maine. Six jurisdictions have introduced Physical Therapy Compact legislation: Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming. Non-member jurisdictions without legislation introduced are California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Minnesota, Puerto Rico, New York and U.S. Virgin Islands.
